In a remarkable display of community spirit and teamwork,
Fizi School inaugurated a new playground, transforming the school's outdoor
area into a lively, colourful, inclusive space for learning and play. This
heartwarming initiative took just five days to complete, thanks to the
collaborative efforts of dedicated volunteers, community members, teachers, and
enthusiastic schoolchildren themselves.
The playground project was spearheaded by Waseela, a German
architect who volunteered her time and expertise to lead the initiative. With
her guidance, the community came together to design and build an area providing
children with active, creative, and quiet play spaces. From recycled materials
to a thoughtfully constructed layout, every detail was carefully considered to
promote fun and safety.
The project was made possible by the kindness and
contributions of many supporters. Various donors donated essential materials,
such as paint, brushes, wooden logs for the pergola, and PVC pipes, reducing
the overall cost of the build. In addition to these generous donations, small
financial contributions from the WhatsApp group “Friends of Fizi” members covered
the remaining costs. The support of these contributors was vital for acquiring
extra items, from sandpaper and cleaning supplies to snacks for the hardworking
volunteers.
The playground is divided into specific zones, each designed
to serve a different purpose and encourage diverse forms of play:
- ·
Active Play Area: This space features a soccer
field, a balance beam and a sturdy wood seesaw, which allows children to build
physical skills and enjoy outdoor fun.
- ·
Creative Corner: This area, equipped with an art
wall and a music wall made from recycled items like pans, pipes, kitchenware,
and scraps, inspires children to experiment with art and sound.
- ·
Nature and Quiet Play Zone: A shaded area with
bamboo sticks provides a relaxed, calm spot for quiet play, ideal for students
seeking peace amidst the excitement.
- ·
Outdoor Classroom: Designed to be functional and
natural, the shaded classroom area is structured with wooden columns and beams,
creating a perfect spot for open-air lessons.
The playground at Fizi School stands as a testament to the
power of unity and the impact that even small contributions can have when
combined with dedication and vision. Thanks to everyone involved, from the
volunteer architect Waseela to the generous donors and the hardworking
community members, the school now has a vibrant, sustainable playground where
children can learn, play, and grow.
